How to make a TikTok-style comment reply image
Creators often start a video by showing the comment they are answering. When you need that comment as a clean image, for a scripted skit, a storyboard or a video about a question you get a lot, you can build it in Mimicly’s TikTok-style comment template. You write the comment and the replies, set the names and likes, and export an image to drop into your edit.

What you need
- The comment text and any replies you want to show
- Names and avatars you are allowed to use; invented usernames work well
- Mimicly on the web or iPhone, signed in to export
- A video editor, if the image is going into a video
Steps
Step 1: Write the comment you are answering
Write it the way it would appear: short, informal, one question or reaction. If this comment sets up your video, the first five words matter most, because that is what viewers read before you start talking.
Step 2: Open the TikTok-style comment template
Open it from this page, or pick TikTok under Comments in the editor. On iPhone, search Templates for TikTok and choose the comment template.
Step 3: Edit the comment
Replace the sample author name, avatar, comment text, timestamp (for example “2h ago”) and like count. On iPhone, tap any of these in the preview to edit it. Use invented names or your own, not a real person’s account.
Step 4: Add your reply
In the web editor, click Add reply under the comment to write the response thread; replies can nest up to three levels deep. Tick OP on a comment to show the “by author” heart, which marks the creator’s own reaction. Adding new replies is easiest on the web.
Step 5: Set the video context and appearance
Fill in Post content and, if you like, a Post / Video thumbnail so the thread sits under a recognizable video. Pick Light or Dark to match the footage it will sit on.
Step 6: Export the image
Export a PNG. The Transparent preset drops the background so you can lay the comment over your own video; Screen keeps the full panel. Comment templates export images only, so the animation, if any, happens in your video editor.
Step 7: Place it in your video
Import the PNG into CapCut, iMovie or your editor, scale it to sit above the caption area and add a short pop-in. Keep it on screen long enough to read, about two seconds per line of text.
Tips
- Keep the like count believable for the story you are telling; a small number reads as a genuine question, a large one as a trending topic.
- Export both Light and Dark versions if you are not sure which will sit better on the footage.
- If the comment is scripted, mention it in your caption.
What Mimicly does not do
- This template renders a comment thread. It is not TikTok’s in-app “reply to comment” sticker.

Questions
Can I record the comment as a video?
No. Comment templates export images. Add motion in your video editor, for example a pop-in or slide-up on the PNG.
How many replies can I add?
In the web editor you can add as many comments as you need, and replies can nest up to three levels deep under a comment.
Can I use someone else’s comment?
Only with care. If you show a real person’s words, credit them and get permission where you can. For scripted skits, write your own comment and use an invented username.
