How do I create an Instagram DM mockup?

Open the Instagram template and replace the sample dialogue. Choose who sends each message, edit the contact details and timestamps, and check the preview. Export an image or use Record for an MP4 conversation.

Is this different from an Instagram post mockup?

Yes. A DM mockup shows a private-message-style conversation between people. A post mockup shows a feed item with a caption and engagement counts. Choose the template that matches your scene.

Do I need to sign in to Instagram?

No. Mimicly creates a separate visual scene and does not read your Instagram messages or send DMs. The names and dialogue are authored by you.

Are the three free exports separate for images and videos?

No. A signed-in free account has three clean exports in total. For example, two images plus one video use all three. Previewing the animation does not consume an export.
