How to make it

  1. Pick a messaging template. iMessage, WhatsApp, Instagram and most other chat templates can be recorded.
  2. Name your two characters and give them photos.
  3. Write the setup, the build and the reveal; keep each message short so it reads on a phone.
  4. Press Preview to check the pacing, then Record to save the MP4.
  5. In your editor, stack it over background footage and add music or a voice-over.

What is a texting story video?

A short vertical video where a story plays out as a chat conversation, message by message. It is a common format on TikTok, Instagram Reels and YouTube Shorts.

Does Mimicly add a voice-over or background gameplay?

Not yet. Mimicly records the chat itself as an MP4. Add a voice-over, music or background footage in your usual video editor.

How long should a text story be?

Most perform best between 20 and 60 seconds. Short messages, one surprise near the end and a clear final line tend to hold viewers.

Can I turn it into a video?

Yes. Press Preview to watch the messages appear one by one, then Record to save the conversation as an MP4 on the web or in the iPhone app. Use image export when you only need a still frame.
